Candidate qualifications: Candidates must be a sophomore at the time of the program (apply for the program in your 9th grade year) and be enrolled in school in Durham County.  Parent and school permission must be obtained to participate.  Students must be interested in learning, have leadership potential, show ability to be a team player, and be interested in meeting new people.

Application process:  The application deadline for the 2012-13 school year is March 23, 2012.  You may download an application here. All current 9th grade students in Durham County are eligible to apply for this program.

Deadlines:  Applications are due March 23, 2012.


Session Details:  7 sessions, one per month, have been developed by the JLD Board, a variety of experienced professionals in Durham, many of whom have graduated from Leadership Durham.  Sessions are engineered to be teen-friendly and to provide the greatest breadth and depth of Durham knowledge possible in the limited time available.  Guest speakers, panelists and locations have been chosen with great care to facilitate this process.  With the permission of schools and parents, participants will be removed from school for up to 5 days throughout the year to participate in the program.  The first session and graduation will be outside of the school day.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE 
Sessions usually begin at 8:00 AM and end at 4:30 PM at locations in Durham.    Attendance at the Orientation session is mandatory.
